"... mad for our planet ..."

Translation:   "The future belongs to those who wake up."  ~Clean Energy Guru

I have to cast my lot with those who age after age,
perversely, with no extraordinary power,
reconstitute the world.
~Adrienne Rich

One man with courage is a majority.
~Andrew Jackson

We must go beautifully and completely mad for our planet
and so become infused with her grace, confidence, wisdom and power ...
so nothing can stop ... us.
~Andrew Harvey

(This photograph was taken while driving along Sherbrooke Street in Montreal, Canada. While I did enhance the photograph in Photoshop, I did not digitally add words to the back of the truck.  The Clean Energy Guru - whoever he or she may be - goes quietly about his/her business sharing the important message that he/she applied to the truck.)

  1. I love each of these quotes, Bonnie, but especially the Adrienne Rich support for those who "perversely, with not extraordinary power, reconstitute the world." Someone must find the courage to be radical, insurgent, and countercultural if the world is to be saved from its current path of self-destruction.

  2. Thank you, George. I, too, love the Adrienne Rich quote. Perhaps, ultimately, we need to come to terms with the fact that the "someone" is us. It does feel daunting and somehow simple, singular acts of courage do not immediately feel like a "majority" as Jackson suggests. But there is no choice now is there?

  6. Hi Bonnie,

It’s always a pleasure to see you pop up among the commenters. Thank you for your kind words.
It looks like you are still hopeful about the fate of our earth. Although I personally do everything I can to keep my footprint light I see too many rob and plunder for all they’re worth. You’d think that later generations would recognise the danger they are placing themselves in but greed appears to win out every time.

  7. Great quotation! Pas de bons pronostics pour l’avenir de la planète… c’est plutôt alarmant. Here is another great quote : « Quand le passe n’éclaire plus l’avenir, l’esprit marche dans les ténèbres » - Alexis de Tocqueville.
