~ still life ~

I am trying my hand at vintage, desaturated still life images.  While I love vibrant, natural colours, this kind of photo manipulation creates a rather dreamy, quiet, ephemeral feel that speaks of yesterdays, evoking memories of another time and place.  I hope you enjoy them and a sprinkle of words from Rilke:

Finally it is not that we overcome or conquer ourselves,
Only that we love quietly from a center,
That even in pain and anger, we feel
Our tenderness and gentleness
And they will surround us in the end.

~Rainer Maria Rilke

  1. the first and third photographs are outstanding. I like the compositions as well as the vintage treatment. The first is romantic. The third looks like it might be a double exposure? I like the sepia colors.

  2. ths pics play well with the quote...which is just what i needed today...smiles.

  3. I do like the muted colors, the antique feel of these photos.

  4. Interesting photos, Bonnie. I always enjoy seeing the new directions you take with photoshop. I love — really, really love — that Rilke quote. What better wisdom is there than this?

Oh my, all so lovely. There is such depth and feeling.
    Love to you

  6. Bonnie, the photos are soft and lovely. Thank you for sharing your work and experiments.

Yes, the Rilke is so tremendous that I will rest in it today. Accepting our shadows while tenderly comforting ourselves as a mother would, not resisting the things we wish were otherwise . . . well he says it so beautifully, with the help of a good translator.

  7. Today I'll reflect on 8, 12 and 14. And meditate on letting go, the subject of my post today.
