ouch

moi

hi everyone!  last weekend  my daughter's dog, maya, went missing for 36 hours, and silly us, we assumed that would be the end of the drama during this 3 wk doggie-sitting gig. HA!

while rough-housing with her outside, early friday morning, i was backing up at fast clip and tripped on a rock.  while air-borne my instincts decided it would be better to brace my fall with my hand than hit my head.  well, my head was spared, but i broke both the ulna and radius bones in my wrist.  the radius actually shattered and split.  OUCH!   DOUBLE OUCH!!

spent two days in hospital, waiting to be operated on to insert pins to re-align bones.  had choice of general anesthesia or local - chose local even though process to freeze arm and not have freezing seep into body was weird and grueling - i'll spare you the details.

am back at home, popping pain killers and reduced to brief stints at computer, typing with one finger.  i will read your posts but probably not comment for a while.  i may post some photographs here and there, but don't expect much for a while.

so, how are you spending YOUR weekend?  hope you have been more fleet of foot than i.  :-)

how can one sweet, beautiful doggie cause so many problems?

  4. Looks like we're all having medical issues at the moment..! That dog looks so sweet, but do I detect an ever so slight guilty look, or is it my imagination? Hope your wrist action improves soonest, but in the meantime... our thoughts are with you!

  5. So sorry to hears this, Bonnie. Hope you heal well and relatively pain free. Did you do an interview with any of the medical staff that took care of you?

  6. Reminds me of Delwyn's tumble some time ago. We're older and more fragile than the child inside us! (Not that children aren't fragile; they're fragile inside and durable in body while old people are often more durable inside and fragile of body.)

Anyway, take care, Bonnie. I will miss you and think of you as you heal.

  12. I am so sorry to hear this, as I broke my wrist in two places last year. I know what you are going through and what you have to look forward to. You have my heartfelt sympathy. BTW, the one-handed typing does get easier.

She is a beautiful dog. A beautiful horse helped me along to my broken wrist. : )

  13. Oh dear Bonnie, and he looks so penitent.

Another friend of a friend broke his arm while attending to his dog - what we do for dogs eh?

Sorry though - do hope you are not in too much paint and that it all mends well.

  19. Sorry for the painful ordeal, Bonnie. I broke an ankle 3 years ago, it was the cast up to my knee, that drove me mad! Hope you heal fast and well!

I'm wondering what Maya's reaction was, when you fell to the ground.

  22. oh Bonnie! I'm so sorry! I can only imagine the pain by multiplying my experience of a broken toe by several times (hands have so many nerves!) and even that probably doesn't get to where you are... oh and I am so, so sorry!

If you find you can't do without your daily blogging and typing, I have a friend who created award-winning voice recognition software...?? (ok, not trying to advertise, but it could be useful). Above all, don't rush it (but push it enough that you maintain dexterity and don't lose strength)... I know it's a fine path you'll have to walk. Hang in there!

  23. Oh dear, it's painful to imagine! I hope you will not be in too much discomfort and that it will be a catalyst for needed rest -- maybe lots of pampering? Please take care, I'll miss your posts. Do let us know about your progress with that one finger.

  26. Oh, you poor thing...I can't imagine the pain...and don't much want to, to tell you the truth.
I hope you heal in good time and with a minimum of continuing discomfort. I agree with Friko: pain pills and books!

  28. thank you all for such kind and caring comments - each one warms my heart and therefore contributes to healing.

ONE TIP: don't go around telling yourself that you desperately need a BREAK from something! your mind might be listening and find a way to give you what you asked for!

  29. Bonnie, I'm not sure if my first comment got lost in cyberspace, but I want to be sure you receive my "Oh no!" at what happened, and my wishes for you to mend quickly and with as little pain as possible. (If this is a second comment, and you do have the first, no need to publish this one.)

I do hope this will provide ample opportunity for being pampered . . .
