...penitent peonies...

Peonies posing
white,
perfumed
huge
ostentatious.

Rains came
Driving peonies into
a humble pose.
 Now they cannot right themselves
to their formerly proud posture.

Pink peonies about to bloom.
(Photographs coming soon.)
More rain forecast
for days to come.
Proud peonies seem
 required to do penance.

Poor peonies.

  3. Even peonies need to humbled from time to time. It builds character.

I'm in Manchester, England, waiting for a train to take me to the starting point of my coast to coast trek. Just thought I would check in with a few blogging friends.

  5. Not only poor peonies, but....poor so many flowers which have to do penance because of the rains! Azaleas and rhodies finished squashed in an unrecognizable mass....But your white peonies are glorious!

  8. Love those peonies! Always remind me of home. We had pink ones growing along the back fence. Mom always said that we'd get bad rains right before the peonies bloomed. Ours always bloomed (in IL) right around Memorial Day.
