...white blanket...

Look how Mother Nature is continuing to blanket us in white -- she must know that some of us are dreaming of a white Christmas.  How sweet of her to make our dreams come true!

The Snow Man

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;

And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter

Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,

Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place

For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.

~Wallace Stevens~

  1. Oh.....how gorgeous, Bonnie. The little tree with blue lights? It looks like Christmas at your house. Great poem, too. When I was at grad school, getting my MFA, I had so many poet friends.... I miss poetry and must make a decision to read more of it. Good for the soul. Hugs, B

  2. We are enjoying the same look out our backyard currently! I find it exquisitely beautiful this time of year. Its new and fresh and I cannot almost forgive the 30 below windchill that has come along. The poem is very fitting!

  10. Bonnie, these are truly beutiful photographs. Magical. I put together a quarterly newsletter for a non-profit organization in France and am always looking for a good photo for the front page. Is there any chance I could have your permission to use one of these pictures? In fact, I'm not completely sure that they would work as well in a printed format but would like to try - only if this is something you would be comfortable with.

  13. Hi Deborah: Thank you - I'm pleased you like these photos. I tried to find your e-mail on your blog to answer you, but could not so.... It would depend on the subject matter of the newsletter...I'm sure if it is something you are involved with it would be fine...but I would prefer to know first...and a small attribution and copyright notice would be appreciated. You can e-mail me (on my ABOUT ME page) and I can forward you a few to choose from. They are night pics, but should reproduce nicely.
