. . . why are you waiting . . . ?

Why are you waiting to begin your life?
Do you think the world must care and come soliciting?
Listen to the knocking at the door of your own heart
It is only faint because you have not answered
You have fooled yourself with preparations
Time left laughing while you considered possibilities
Wake up you have slept long enough
Wake up tomorrow may be too late
When you finally dare open the door your life will begin arriving
Cautiously at first, unbelieving that the gate
So long locked against the tide has finally been opened
Then with swells of neglected dreams
Then with waves of joyful revelation the sea will follow
You will be swept by the full and magnificent tides of your own longing
That no one else can give you
That no one else can claim

  3. Waiting. Hoping. Time passing by. The river of your life flowing wordlessly to the sea. Swim. Dance. Don't wait another second.

  6. Just be aware you can always close the door again for a respite, if you need to.

And you will likely need pause to catch your breathe periodically once life really gets going.

    Enjoy!

  7. I looooooove that, Bonnie! Can relate to that wake-up call. And great photos; no wonder birds live in trees, it's so cosy in there!

  9. Words to live by! I would add that when we think that we must take giant steps towards our dreams to let go of that. Baby steps towards our dreams will do and are better than staying put.

  11. Hello Bonnie

that urgent piece has a powerful punch...

I like Dan's addition because I too feel that striving towards goals may be self defeating at times...
this movement of opening up to all the universe offers can also be subtle and slow, meandering and even stationary and still be ewarding...and revealing...

    Happy days

  13. this is a great poem and so true. We get out of life what we put in most of the time. I try hard to teach my kids that you can achieve your dreams as long as yo are willing to follow them and work for them.
